The pipelines in any make 6800nu/le can be potentially unlocked, along with the extra vertex shaders(s); but there is no guaruntee that they will be in a usable condition.

A lot of people manage to get 12 pipes and 6 verts on and 6800(LE), but each card is diff.

Nothing really - luck of the draw.

Sometimes if the GPU cant cut it at ultra specs, it'l be downgraded to a GT. If it cant cut it at GT specs it will be downgraded to a standard and so on.

But also GPU's are put on lower spec cards due to demand, so they may be able to work perfectly at 16 pipes/ 6 vertex shader but are downgraded to satisfy the rquirements of the board manufacturer - obviously these are the cards you want

Remember - it is your right to be able to send a product back within 7 days if it is sill in a "saleable condidtion"

All 6800s can be unlocked. The question is whether you get artefacting once the extra pipe and shader is enabled. The majority of unlocked 6800 cards result in major artefacting.

My LE would only work without artifacting with the extra vertex shaders
In the end I returned it and now I have 6600gt (but no mobo to put it in )

well thats the problem, my budget is about £600 - £700 on a computer, i mean im really taking shortcuts, 80gig Deskstar, soc 754 amd64 3000 and i've seen this Aopen 6800 le with Doom 3 for £180, since alot of you are telling me that I can squeeze out another 8 pipelines and some vertex shaders on it without even needing to overclock it tells me that it might be worth it, and one of you has also told that you can take it back since you can't damage a product by activating the extra pipelines, i'll prolly get an arctic cooler to overclock it a bit as well, is this a good card tho?

If you don't mind getting it without the free games and fancy packasging, you can get one for ~£140 form order247.co.uk. It's an oem leadtek card.

Alot of people have done exactly that, the 6800LE surpasses the former giants 9800XT in performance and has the ability to be overclocked to high speeds.

so is the 6800 LE much faster than the 6600gt?
also, will it be compatible with the Arctic Cooler?
    thx

At stock I'd say the 6600gt is a bit better, but with unlocked pipes and ocing the LE would be better.
And yes, it is compatible with the NV5 silencer.
