Last Tuesday, MSI released new firmware for the whole GTX 970/980 TwinFrozr V lineup (excluding reference cards) that fixes an issue some users were having about random fan spin up without hitting predefined temp values, an issue that seemed to be reported more often on GTX 970 cards rather than GTX 980 cards, even though there were cases on both models. Do note it only affects some users, not a majority by any stretch of the imagination.
Additionally, the new VBIOS upgrades previous VBIOSes to Hybrid BIOS, meaning from this updated VBIOS onwards all VBIOSes will have both legacy and UEFI mode.
This update can be obtained through MSI's Live Update software, and detailed info on how to flash the new VBIOS can be found on this MSI forum thread. Just make sure you check which card version you have before updating.
