I personally wouldn't go with any Geforce FX card - the ATi alternatives seem better to me. For around that price, you could get a 9800 Pro, essentially ATi's previous generation top end card. However, I'd recommend going for a 6600GT, nVidia's new midrange card. It beats the 9800 Pro/XT in almost all tests, and only struggles when the resolution and AA are turned up. If you can wait until after Christmas, 6600GTs could be a fair bit cheaper.

Like I said, I would wait until after Christmas if I were you - you should be able to get a better price.

The brand doesn't really matter too much. Gainward provide cards that are overclocked already, but have a price premium that I don't think is worth it.

The cheapest I could find was this: http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=603810

You could also look at Komplett: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=305838&cks=PRL

You might also want to consider the more expensive 6800 - I think that if you have the money, the performance jump is worth it.

All quality brands, I've used gaiward, XFX & PNY before. MSI & Gigabyte are also good. It's basically pot luck really. All about as good as each other.
