Well I just offered the best price for the 4Gb version. If you want the best you'll need to pay more. That being said the PowerColor card I believe is a good option anyway, in terms of thermal performance regardless of it's price.

So 2gb or 4gb version? And any manufacturer to recommend? Would want one that's silent under normal load and the fans don't run until a certain temp.

Just noticed the GigaByte version uses an 8 pin power connector which I have. Any reason not to go for GigaByte?

4GB should stutter less, I would say it is a very nice to have but when I was buying I couldn't justify the price increase so I still went 2GB as that should still be enough for 1080p. Now the 4GB cards are coming down in price they are more tempting.

Have had a couple of Gigabyte cards, they tend to be pretty good.

Is that really a stopping point? I have heard about some pretty minor cosmetics being the reasoning behind some peoples choices....but the spelling of colour not matching British English...that would take the biscuits.

I got a PowerColor R9 285, but that was back at the end of May so just before the 300 series was launched and there were some bargains to be had in 200 series cards. They seem to have all dried up now.

OK, was about to do a big warning thing about EPS cables, but having looked up the CX430 it looks like it has a 6+2pin PCIe cable.

In that case you've got more options, because an 8 pin cable is rated to provide the same power as 2 6pin cables. They're not the easiest to find, but that means you can use an 8pin to 2x 6pin splitter to power a graphics card, and it'll be fine. Or you could mod yourself one if you're comfortable reading wiring diagrams
