GPU upgrade. PSU power and connectors question.

    Hi.
I'm the new guy here and this is my first post, so bare with me.
I have HP H9-1250ea with 600w PSU, currently I have GTX 670 ftw 2GB GPU installed and I'm thinking to upgrade to Sapphire NITRO+ RX480 8GB. My PSU has 2x6 pin connectors and none 8 pin connectors. As I understand, then Sapphire RX480 require 1x8 pin connector...
So my question is, can I use dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapter? And what about amps - Is my PSU good enough for such a card?
    Thank you!

You can use a 2x6pin-to-8pin adapter, but only if the two sets of 6pin wires are not ultimately going to the same set of wires from the PSU. For example, you must not use 4pin molex Y adapters, and two 6pin PCIe connectors chained along the same wires is a bad idea. The thing to avoid is overloading the individual conductors & connectors.

If the PSU has separate wires for the 6pin cables you should be fine in terms of total wattage. The only exception would be if it's a very old or poor quality PSU.

Be sure to use a good quality branded 2x6pin-to-8pin adapter, not just the cheapest you can find. Proper crimped terminals are important. Many graphics cards do include one.

Re: GPU upgrade. PSU power and connectors question.

6 pin PCIe connectors are designed for 75W load
8 pin PCIe connectors are designed for 150W load

So your pair of 6 pin connectors should feed a single 8 pin connector through an adapter just fine.

Thanks for your reply guys. My PSU is HP branded with part number 633186-002, I have no idea how good it is, but I have been using my GTX 670 in a gaming for a year or so without any problems, so I guess it should be able to handle rx 480, right?

That's a Delta Electronics DPS-600WB-A. No worries there.. decent stuff. Also seems quite oversized considering the rest of the system.
600W PSU with 540W combined on the 12V rails sounds like it could be a modern DC-to-DC converter based design too..
