Arctic Cooler on an ASUS V9999 6800gt

My mate has just bought one of these and he wats to get an arctic cooler like the one I have on my 9800AIW

BUT Ive read that the fan power sockets are incompatable. Is this true? If so is it possible to connect the arctic cooler up to the psu or motherboard directly and if so is there an adapter I would need. I suck at soldering, etc (actually I cant do it ) so that way would be awesome

    thanks
