No display out on graphics card... is my graphics card dead?

    Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone could help.

My computer was working fine up until yesterday, I turn on the pc and now no longer get a display out from my graphics card.

I have tired all the connecitons from the card to the monitor DVI, HDMI and DP.

When I remove the graphics card and plug the monitor directly into my motherboard to use integrated graphics I get a signal.

Has anyone had this issue before?
    Is my Graphics card dead?
Just wondering if I need to buy a new graphics card.

    Thanks for reading.

Sounds ominous. Does the 'signal' allow you to access Device Manager, because you could disable faulty card.

    Hi, welcome to HEXUS.

What make is the graphics card? Had you done anything to the PC configuration? Depending on the motherboard, can you try the graphics card in another slot? Can you try the card in another computer?

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your reply.

When I use the integrated graphics the pc boots into windows and I can get in to device manager. (Graphics card removed).

However if I have the graphics card in the PCIE slot I can not get a signal from either the graphics card or the motherboard integrated graphics.

    Hi Peterb,

Thanks for your response and warm welcome.

The graphics card is a HD 7950 3gb, I have not done any adjustments to the card since installing it into my secondary pc.

The pc was working fine a few days ago and the last thing I did was play CSGO on the pc.
I turned on the POC today and can't get a signal

It isn't looking good for the card - but you need to try it in another PC to be sure.

Re: No display out on graphics card... is my graphics card dead?

Since the card is well out of warranty, it might be worth taking the cooler off and seeing whether there's any obvious signs of damage - bulging capacitors, scorch marks around VRMs etc.

Which PSU do you have in your secondary PC? If it's a cheap no-name one, it might've damaged the graphics card...

    Thanks for the suggestion MrJim.

I'll remove the cooler later today and report back, will probably give it a clean and replace thermal paste and pads too.

I have tried all the connections on the graphics card and do not get a output.

I know it is not my monitor and may cables as they work with my main PC.
Just the graphics card isn't dead

    Update*

Removed card from pc, took off cooler and everything looks normal.
No obnvious signs of damage i.e. blown capcitors...
Clean dust out of heatsink with compressed air, remove old thermal paste and replaced with new.
The heatsink on my card only had contact with the GPU and there were no thermal pads to replace.
Put the card back together and tired the card in another PC in two different PCIE slots.

Still not getting any signal but fans spin

Is there anything else I should check before calling it a day?

I think you should post a pics of the card for the internet hive mind to diagnose. Dead gpus suck but the gpu used market price is okayish atm so you should be able to get a decent replacement for not insane money.

Any suggestions for a cheap second hand card to play esports titles like CSGO, overwatch, LOL and Fortnite?

Do you have a budget, and how fast did you find your last card?

From a look at benchmarks, a 7950 is about as fast as an R9 380 or on the Nvidia side a GTX 960. If you want to buy new, that means your old card is about as fast as a 1050ti. That's awkward on the AMD side, the Rx 560 is slower and cheaper, the RX 570 is a lot faster and more expensive.

Given I wouldn't want to spend money on a 2GB video card these days, if you want new a £150 4GB 1050ti is probably the sweet spot. https://www.amazon.co.uk/NVIDIA-GeFo...dp/B01MFBKRI5/

Depends whether you want something faster or cheaper than your old card though.
