    Very Low 3DMARK 2003 Score?

    Hello all,

My current system is an Athlon XP2600+, with 512mb of DDR400 Crucial RAM, and a Radeon 9800pro 128mb 3D card; all on a nice NF7-S NForce 2 motherboard.

I've just ran 3D Mark 2003 (all defult settings, 1024x768, etc) for the first time, and got 2731 3D Marks. Is that normal? I seem to remember my mate, who has a 1.6Ghz CPU, a Geforce 2 card, and less RAM, getting 7000 odd, when he tested my 3d card in his system.

The first test, with the planes, was bombing along, at 100's of frames a second, then it all went downhill, dropping to about 4 frames per second when the two large trolls were on screen.

    Opinions please.

    Many thanks,

    Stu.

I downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers 2 days ago, from the ATi site, DirectX9 from Microsoft yesterday, and the latest update fro 3DMark2003 a few hours ago.

I'd give exact version numbers, but I can't get to my system jusy yet. Anyway, unless anything new has been released in the last 48 hours, they are the current versions \ drivers.

    Many thanks,

    Stu.

sounds like your mates used the 3d mark 2001 benchmark lol i only score around the 5,000 mark with my rad 9700
    in 3d 03 seems a bit low for a 9800 tho

Yes, forget about my mates score, I think that was 3DMark 2001. As you say though, 2700 or so, with a 9800pro seems low to me. It eats the games I tried it with (Vice City, C&C Generals, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, and SoF) without any problems, and all the flashy stuff turned on.

I'll try it in 3DMark 2001 and see what score I get.

overclocked i get over 6500 with my system below so your score is definately lower than it should be.

you will get 4fps or so in some of the cpu tests, this is normal.

some of the obvious things to try is, reboot your pc, make sure there are no other applications running in the back ground, update your graphics drivers, make sure anti aliasing and ansiotrpic filtering are turned off or set to application in your graphics drivers, make sure you've selected the defaul settings in 3dmark03.

if none of that helps, try uploading your score data onto the ORB and then you can compare it with others, mine if you wish, to see if it is particular tests that somthing is going wrong or it is across the board.

here's one of my scores (similar spec but overclocked a bit) to compare with :- http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=904488

Big fat arse. Just realised that all the AA and AF stuff is turned up to max, from when I was showing off to a mate during a game of C&C Generals.

I'll turn it off and do another test tomorrow.

    It's a game, isn't it?

Indeed. To be honest, it was always more likely that my intense stupidity and vast computer ignorance was going to be to blame, rather than some actual fault.

Cheers to all who posted anyway.

Nope, still not getting 6000 with the RAM tweaked, and CPU overclocked by 200Mhz.

5583 best so far. Still feel I'm running a bit slow for some reason...

Indeed. 5500 isn't a bad score, and my games (except Halo, but a lot of people are having trouble with that) run fine.

It's just that people with similar set-ups, even with the same card, and less RAm and a slower CPU, seem to be getting slightly better 3DMark scores. No major problem, but I do wonder why.
