upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

Hi, i'm back, after many year sof not being on these formums, ive reset my password and here I am.

I built my PC in 2014 so, at 6 years old its starting to show its age.

I am not ready to build a new one yet, if i can get 2 more years then that would be great. dur to Covid 19 ive started doing a bit of gaming again, and I wanted to upgade my Graphics cards, but dont know where to start.

    My specs are:

    Win 10 64bit
    120Gb kingston SSD
    MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Mobo
    8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
    GTX460 GPU
    Pentel I5-4460 CPU

I am thinking of swapping my grapics card and installing another 8Gb RAM.

I am playing older games, such as GTAV, Metro 2033 and lastlight, alan wake.

Is ther any suggesteion for a graphics card in the region of £100-£120? I am happy to buy second hand for a 3 year old mid range graphics card if needed.

    Thnaks

For that price range you'll be looking at

Try to get the AMD RX 580 8Gb, if you up your budget a little you might get a GTX 1070 8Gb for around £160 if you shop around.

Buying new you could look at the 1650 Super, which can be had for £153:

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/zota...65b505e4cee86b

Make sure you get the "Super" not just the 1650, which is a completely different card, and performs much worse.

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

    If you have a hard £100~£120 budget,the I would look at the RX570 4GB:
    https://www.cclonline.com/product/29...-Card/VGA5685/
    https://www.cclonline.com/product/29...-Card/VGA5684/

You can get the 8GB version for £125.

If you intend to spend any more than, that I would buy a GPU with at least 6GB~8GB of VRAM. So an RX580,RX590 or a GTX1660. CCL Computers was recently selling a GTX1660 Super for around £200.

    What PSU do you have??

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

Yes, the GTX460 is still holding up well. it plays all the older games fine. Loving dishonored at the moment, never played it untill a few weeks ago.

Is it worth buying an older 2nd hand card, ie a good card form 2017/2018?

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

I'm taking the approach of not spending £100 now to put towards £300 later. Given current climate when that later will be is anyone's guess, but for now Mrs ik9000 will not stand for such nonsense!

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

An RX570 would be probably close to three times faster than a GTX460 1GB from my estimates(assuming no CPU bottleneck)

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

Get an Rx 580 8GB, it would be a good balance, I'm using a 3770k and 16gb ram, Rx 580 8GB, the cpu sits around 40-50% while the GPU maxes 100%, so I doubt you will get a cpu bottle neck, this is at 1080p. Defiantly get 16gb ram tho.

Edit. I only paid £123 for my RX 580 8gb new, ebay.

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

If you get a 960 now, your CPU and ram would end up being your bottleneck, and whenever you decide to upgrade your CPU/mobo/ram, you could probably keep the 960 for a good few years seeing it performs about 50% better than a 750ti. Also given that you've had your 460 for 5 years before you decide to upgrade, you could assume that a 960 could last you 4-5 years too whereas the 750ti may only last 3-4.

Re: upgrade of a GTX460 graphics card

I use XFX RX-560D4SFG5 Radeon RX 560. It is well within your range. If you can get a high end card at your budget second hand then go for it.
