GPU fans ramping up in sleep.

This is a bit of a weird one!

    System:

    RX 580 8gb Pulse
    P8z77m pro
    3770k overclocked to 4.4ghz
    16gb ram 1866mhz
    550w psu

Windows up to date, drivers up to date....

So when my PC sleeps/turns the monitor off, every few minutes my GPU fans ramp up to 100% for a few secs, but if I leave the Radeon software open it doesn't do it?!?!?! it's so weird.

Ive tried disabling any monitoring software (afterburner etc) ,rolled back drivers, fresh driver installs with ddu..... it still does it!

It's been happening for months but it's beginning to annoy me now, I can hear it ramping up from my bedroom it's that LOUD!, so if I forget to open the Radeon software and go to bed I have get up go and open it and leave it on screen.

I know people will think this is a trivial problem, but it's become so annoying! has anyone else had this problem?

I've had a google but couldn't find anyone with this problem?, its so strange.

    Any ideas would be good!

Pulse by name and pulse by nature!!

I think you would need to edit the BIOS and override the factory default fan curve - I suspect Sapphire haven't tested the default profile properly. The software will override it - have you tried Sapphire TriXX?

Another thing you could try is to undervolt the GPU too, perhaps if it runs a bit cooler, the fan won't ramp up in auto mode so often.

Cheers, but I've undervolted the GPU, it still does it, it's so weird.

I just don't get why it doesn't do it with the software open, close the software to tray, it starts ramping up again.

I think editing the bios is a last resort tbh, this card doesn't have the bios switch like the others.

One thing I haven't tried is Trixx, so good shout, I'll give that a try at some point today and report back.

Re: GPU fans ramping up in sleep.

So, I installed Trixx 7.5 I haven't tested to see if the fans keep ramping up yet..... but..... all the overclocking stuff which used to be in Trixx is gone!, there's literately nothing in the software to overclock the card or set a fan curve! Am I missing something?

There's only 3 tabs, dashboard, hardware monitoring and Trixx boost (which is resolution down/upscaling)

So Trixx hasn't sorted it........ I didn't think it would seen as Trixx has been completely striped of overclocking software etc.....

    Any other ideas anyone?

I haven't had an AMD GPU for a few years,so didn't realise the software had been scaled back!!

No worries mate, I didn't know too, I always thought Trixx was just overclocking software which I didn't really like compered to Afterburner, seems it's gone a different direction now.... It's only about scaling resolutions and monitoring....

Just heard them dam fans ramping up again! Ffs lol

Re: GPU fans ramping up in sleep.

I had this exact issue with my 5700XT pulse. Sounded like it was trying to take off. This post helped me get rid of it, but you have to rewrite the bios with this method at every driver update. I ultimately ended up selling the card because of this.

Re: GPU fans ramping up in sleep.

When you say goes to sleep what exactly do you mean? If it goes into full sleep mode the GPU fan shouldn't be turning on at all. If it is just switching the monitor off but leaving your machine otherwise running then this will happen once the GPU temp rises enough for the fan to kick in.

Yeah I found this out, just applied a custom fan curve in the end, still have to reapply the setting every now and again tho.
