    3070 for 3440x1440 UWQHD

I have a small predicament (a good one to be in I guess atm)

I am waiting for my 3080 I ordered on launch day from oc (never again but thats a different story)

I managed to cop a 3070 FE from Scan a couple of weeks ago. My screen is 100hz 3440x1440 and I am just wondering with the 3070 do you think this will be enough for a few years or i'd be better selling and keeping my 3080... when it eventually arrives. My feeling is 3070 will be great for 1080p but I really could do with a 3080 for the extra pixels?

    Anyways appreciate thoughts

    Re: 3070 for 3440x1440 UWQHD

From everything that I have read so far, I would say that the 3070 handles 1080p and 1440p high refresh rate monitors easily, but if you think that you might upgrade to a 4K monitor later on then you would definitely need the 3080 for that.

I managed to snag a 3070 a few weeks back and I'm planning to upgrade to a larger 1440p monitor (current is a very decent 144hz 1080p G-sync compatible 24") at some point to fully benefit from the card's capabilities.

So I'd probably go with your initial plan of selling the 3070FE when you eventually get the 3080 as that gives you more options down the line.

    Re: 3070 for 3440x1440 UWQHD

As I have 3440x1440@120Hz myself, I did some rather extensive research on it. Currently I find the 3070 slightly short-lived for our monitors. It's perfect for now, however its potential long life will be cut short by the underwhelming RAM.
In my opinion, the 3440x1440 should be counted like a 4K (with a pinch of salt). Therefore the 3080 is the way to go.
If your monitor is not limited by being G-sync only, like mine, I'd wait for 6800XT, while having the 3070 on board, and jump on the Zen3 bandwagon, taking advantage of the Smart Access Memory. RayTracing is still budding and not worth the hype.

Friendly advice - if your monitor is less than 40", and you don't work with loads of text, stay away from 4K Refresh rate is the king.

I'm gaming at 1440p @ 144Hz with a 1070 and have been thinking about upgrading to a 3060ti but think there's probably plenty of reason to wait for at least one more generation before upgrading. RAM in particular is a concerning limiting factor.

Yeah I think they're both kind of in no-mans land. Performance with RT isn't good enough for 1440p high refresh, and VRAM could be a limitation, so the better choice right now is something from the red side. The rumoured 3080ti 20GB is probably the main one worth getting.

    Re: 3070 for 3440x1440 UWQHD

    -- Update --

so I have been using my 3070 alongside my 5600x for just over a week now.

I have to say I am really impressed! In warzone for example (CPU killing game) I run at highest settings and RTX on (which apart from gulag and a few spots doesn't make a huge difference) and although my screen is limited too 100fps I sit pretty happy at 120-130fps. I didn't think it would perform this well but it does.

Thanks for all the advice, I love my monitor. I have had it coming up to 3 years now and apart from getting the same monitor but slightly faster 144hz I definitely wouldn't upgrade to 4k. Well not unless they start making fast 4k UWs for reasonable prices so I guess I have a long time to wait

And when that comes around maybe the 2nd gen of decent blow for blow AMD GPUs will be out and all the small doubts I have about them will be gone and I will go for one of those!

So for now, I will give my 3080 position to a mate and keep my 3070
