    Re: A weird one ?

Probably a driver issue. Install new drivers with a clean install option set. If that doesn't work, wipe old driver use the nvidia removal tool. Reboot system, then install a new driver. Do all this with the monitor plugged in the GPU, do not use it on the onboard.

Does the new monitor require a certain refresh rate / hdmi standard? can the 1060 supply that requirement? Is the cable the right standard too (presumably this is ok if the onboard gpu can make the monitor work with the cable)

Have you tried different cables? I had a similar issue and that fixed it.

    Re: A weird one ?

Probably a daft question but when using HDMI with the onboard graphics if you go into device manager is the graphics card listed?

Had the same issue with my build, it was a driver issue. Had to load it up on the onboard graphics and manually download and install all the Radeon drivers for my 6700XT

Any luck? Should also mentioned I disconnected every single USB device before booting and once I got display I plugged the Mouse and Keyboard back in.

    Re: A weird one ?

Check the resolution, refresh rate and supported HDMI version are compatible.

Don't know about HP but there are some 27" Dell monitors out there that work fine at 2560 x 1440 over Display Port but only support 1920 x 1080 over HDMI on the Windows 10 defaults. I seem to recall only getting the native resolution over HDMI by creating a custom timing profile with a 24Hz refresh rate.

    Re: A weird one ?

So the scientific / unscientific way of solving this is to try ever which possible combination of cables, outputs, inputs, resolutions, drivers and settings, kinda using both instincts and logic to narrow down the range of possible explanations, until you find something that works. And have something nearby that you can dip in and out of in terms of having something to do so you don't blow your top in frustration. But that's generally true of most hardware bug hunting.

I can think of 5 ways to resolve the issue

    1. Carefully read the specifications for the monitor, the cable, windows 10 revision, driver revision and configure accordingly
    2. Use a display port cable
    3. Buy a new monitor
    4. Colossal Cave Adventure - Try everything with everything
    5. IT Monkey - Randomly press buttons hoping for a pleasing display of coloured lights to appear
