6600gt 128mb Vs 6800gt 256mb

Im in the process of building a new machine and i've got the the all important Graphics card.......

Apart from the major difference of one being 128mb and the other 256mb, is there much difference in performance? In other words is it justifiable spending the extra money?

If anyone could post up benchmark results of these cards that would be great.

YES But i would recomend for £260 an ATI x850xt pe, its better than the 6800GT. Its normally about £350 but this is OEM direct from dell.

wow cheers for the hint, will look into that. The only thing is nividia work with the gaming industry so some games are made for them cards.

If you can get an x850xt for cheap then go for it.

As for the 6600GT vs. 6800GT, the latter is FAR faster than the former. A single 6800GT is on par with two SLI 6600Gts. The 6800GT has double the memory bandwidth, double the usable memory, and about a 40% higher fillrate.

I find the 6800GT's to be a little less quirky than the 6600GT's I've tested also.

If you like ATI they make many nice cards. Don't buy a $600.00 graphics card for a $200.00 CPU though because you'll be wasting money. If you're using an overclocked A64 (2500MHz+ or FX-53+) then an X850 XT PE's benefits can be realized. If not you're much better off with an X800 XL. Absolutely awesome bang for the buck.

Well the 6600GT only has 8 pipes and 128Bit ram. The 6800GT has 16 pipes and 256bit ram. You do the math

6800GTs are relatively cheap these days, I think it's the better bang for the buck.

That x850XT deal is sweet though

and the 6600 currently has a few issues with 64 bit linux (32 bit linux is ok!) one of the packages needs recompiling to fix it, but damn annoying!
