question about resolution and tft v crt

just got a 19" hyundai imagequest tft on order with an HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X850 XT ICEQII TURBO 256MB DDR3.

for the last 5 years I've had a 17" CRT and a pretty average GPU
my graphics card is really only capable of 1024x768 but now I'm hoping to enjoy maximum resolution settings at 1280 etc

I just wondered when this is all set up what difference the difference will be like compared to my old set up, also given the fact that this upgrade has cost me the best part of £600 is it money well spent.

this is purely for games which is what I do most of the pc ?

and whats the rest of the spec?
The x850xt you will see a huge difference in games. The monitor will be buch nicer and big, but obviously wont affect performance.
