Question Best card to go with this Widescreen TFT

Looking at getting a Dell 2005FPW 20'' widescreen as I've gotten so used to the widescreen ratio on my lappy.

However I could do with a decent card for it as I'm running an old Ti4600 still

Res for the monitor is 1680 x 1050 and the card I go for has to knock out at least 100hz at that res,

AGP or PCIe doesn't matter as I may be changing mobo too if need be.

Budget for the card is below £200.

    Any help or advice?

    Why? It's a TFT. It won't flicker.
Have you checked the TFT can even go above 60HZ? I think my 2405 is limited to 60HZ (at least at the max resolution.)

Ok, gonna plead ignorance on that fact, only put it in cause I can see flicker anything up to 80hz on a crt.

Best card then for that res still?

fastest card you can get. even a 6800 ultra will struggle with some games at that res.

just over £200 and id say an ati x800xl, just under and you may catch one of these bargin nvidia 6800gt's that are floating about, scan had them for £175. look around the usual stores and you may find them popping up.

either card is roughly £200 and both are very good. but as mentioned, you may want even more power for that super high res.

TFTs don't redraw in the same way as CRTs do. Whilst you may notice flickering on a CRT at <85hz, you won't on a TFT.

If you grab one second hand, I'd go for the X800XT. When my system is working properly, it runs my Dell just fine. 60Hz is all you'll get and all you need.

I've got an X800XT @ PE speeds on my rig in sig and i can run MOST games (but not all) at 1920 x 1200 (native res) with 2x AA and 4xAF at playable frame rates. Sometimes drop down to 2xAF though.

Refresh rates are irrelevant, i suggest you check up on the technology. A TFT running at 60Hz is competely flicker free, it's a different technology, it works in a different way

Pretty simple question to answer. You basically want the fastest graphics card you can afford, with a DVI port.

Sounds odd. I have 2x6600GTs in SLI and they run HL2 at 1920*1200 with all settings on high with framerates over 100 most of the time. An x850xt should be even better? Maybe you were CPU imited?
