What sort of price will the 6800 Ultra go down to when these new cars are released then?

I'm not one for buying new gear when it comes out. Bought my radeon 9800 Pro when it was about half its original price

LOL, exactly my thoughts, what a stupid thing to say. Guess he's a bench freak.

And the 6800 series will not go down in price much for a long long time. Places buy them for a set amount or w/e, there not gpoing to suddenly put there pricey substancially lower because of newer cards, it's never happened before, and never will.

Yea thats right, whats the point of these graphics cards manufacturers launching all these new GPU's if we are supposed to run to the Playstations and Xbox's as the only gaming platform - thats quite an arrogant statement to make. My mate who bought the 6800 Ultra the day it came out - what did he do with it? Play games ;D

Apparantly ATI's R520 will do 10,000 in 3dmark05. So I would say we are seeing a good increase in speed over current cards, although 3dmark isn't the be all and end all, it does give some idea as to performance.

Consoles are not upgradeable from a gfx point of view. Once you buy one, it's up to developers to squeeze as much as they can from the hardware, which, to their credit they do over the lifespan of the console but there is a decent lifetime for financial reasons.

PC Hrdware will always get better, faster etc. Your only measure is what you consider is worth paying for.

For example I'm still running a 9700pro, one of the all time best cards if you are looking for bang for buck price v performance. I am still pleased with it's performance now but realise I will have to upgrade soon (inc the rest of the rig) Can you imagine going from 9700pro to 7800 gtx?

I'd guess that the price will drop about 25% in the next 4-6 months.
