    Unhappy How to kill a £300+ gfx card (by me)

    Well this card:




    had a problem , it was overheating , so it was removed from the machine , and the EPOXY frozen in the freezer for 6 hours


    yes epoxy on the core


    well , i tried to remove the heatsink and this happened:







    a bad picture of the thickness of the epoxy :





    Yes thats a DEAD Radeon X800 XT PE.

    damn.

    So that's what the inside of the chip looks like.

    On a more positive note check your household insurance as it may cover accidental damage like this. It may not but it's worth checking.

    Don't use epoxy if you _ever_ want to remove the HSF

    I didn`t use epxoy it was on the card when i got it - been in this game for long enough to know NOT to do it - but the car was artifacting at stock , and that heatsink was way to big , so i had to try and get it off some how

    Thats what happens if you use epoxy..

    Especialy on a heavy heatsink. The wieght of the heatsink probably played a big part in weaking the chip...

    Rofl omg I done that with my geforce 3 So i dismantled it and took the actual GPU off of the board. Except the damn thing was moulded on, so I ended up peeling several parts of the GPU off

    that heatsink is thermal right sp-97 looks to me. this thing is quite heavy & will break the chip soon or later anyway
