Need two TFTs if you please

Prior to toddling off to University I need to replace my gargantuan 19" CRT and dated 15" CRT with TFTs.

I play the occasional game and watch movies now and then, but most of the time I'm just multitasking my arse off. With that in mind, I either need a good deal on two 17" monitors, or a nice 17" and a cheaper 15" model.

Any URLs or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Kez.

While not the cheapest, the best for image quality I have used, and seen reviewed are the Viewsonic VP171S-2, which is an 8ms panel. I'd personally want a 19", but only one of them.

For some reason Savastores seem to be one of the cheapest places to buy them.

Oh and if you are a gamer you might like the slightly cheaper 4ms panel from Viewsonc:

    http://www.savastore.com/productinfo...282166&pid=206

...thats just been reclassifed as a 3ms panel:

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=1759

The VX series don't quite have as good image quality as the VP series, but they are of course better for gaming due to the very very low access times, and still ahve a very good image quality. Or so I'm told.

    Here's a review of the 19" VP191

    http://www.behardware.com/articles/5...or-killer.html

And here's a comparison of loads of 19" TFT's including the VP191 and the VX924:

    http://www.behardware.com/articles/5...tn-ips-va.html

It *should* be the same for the 17" versions... but thats an assumption of course.

Not sure what your budget is but as you probably know the Digimate monitors from Aria are some of the cheapest ones around. Can only see positive comments (not sure if Aria filter out bad ones).

A few months ago I bought 4 of them (16ms) for friends/relatives. 3 were ok but the fourth one had a dead pixel.

Have just bought a Video7 17" TFT for another friend. IMHO the digimates are better.

This is the low end however and you may be after better quality.

    Why buy 2 monitors?

Dell are selling their 24" widescreen 2405 for £688 in the sale at the mo. Prob a bit more than you want to spend, but you get a great monitor, multiple inputs, picture by picture and less clutter on your desktop. Could be a worthwhile investment?

Call me funny but I prefer two monitors to one big one.

I don't like running things windowed, no matter how big the window. Plus two monitors help me separate things out... less clutter.

Are you running the 2 monitors off 1 computer? If so I see your point about running things windowed. I don't know if the 2405 would take 2 inputs from the same graphics card and treat it as 2 different pcs giving you a sided by side picture, rather than a windowed picture. If it did that would be the same as 2 monitors, just with no bezel seperating them
If your running 2 different pcs then obv the pictures would be side by side and not windowed.

Two monitors are good cos you can Fullscreen one app and have windows on the other screen, great for watching lost while MSNing on the other one.

I have a dual-head setup. One PC, two montiors, extra productivity.

Dougal: I'm going to Bristol Uni.

Good luck! I feel my relaxed attitude may have cost me a bit on my AS exams, we'll soon find out. What grades do you need?
