    poor ATI performance in F.E.A.R?

From the only review I could find of the beta/demo version of F.E.A.R(http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...ce/default.asp)
its seems pretty clear that nvidia has quite a noticeable performance advantage over ati especially in midrange areas (6800gt vs x800xl). At 1024x768 4xAA (the setting ill be playing the game at) - the 6800gt beats the x850xt pe! Having just bought an x800xl myself I'm left wishing I'd gone the nvidia route - F.E.A.R was one of the games I'd pretty much bought a new pc to play. Reading the recent news about the x1800 cards being only 16pipes and seeing the preliminary benchmarks of them (and not being too impressed!) coupled with ATI's performance in the latest games such as F.E.A.R doesnt fill me with confidence - I will be looking to buy nvidia cards in future if things carry on as they are. However, I've read somewhere that the F.E.A.R game is partnered with or sponsored by ATI so hopefully (fingers crossed!) they can do some serious optimizing when the games finally released - otherwise I'll be selling my x800xl and getting a nvidia card!

I think that might be true...

...but with nVidia instead of ATI

That could mean early access to code etc - which would almost certainly mean a performance boost to the 'partner' prior to full code being launched

Despite various 'web wind ups' - no one know how fast our next generation technology is going to be apart from us...

...and, until October, we are definitely not saying
