    Question 9600XT 256MB or 9800 128MB ?

My friend is just about to purchase a new graphics card and has around £200 - £230 to spend. He has been looking at the ATi Radeon 9600XT 256MB and the 9800 [Non-Pro] 128MB. Which do you reckon would be the best? Cheers.

I personally would go for the 9800 non pro, reading some reviews on this site says its not that hard to get it to run at pro speeds.

The 9800 non pro is basically a 9700 pro and both of those cards will take an absolutely massive dump on the 9600 whether it's a 256mb XT model or not - cos it's a crippled card.

As said there is no competition there at all. The 9800 is superior in EVERY way ... 8 pipes vs 4 pipes, 256bitDDR vs 128bitDDR, T-buffer vs no T-buffer, 0.15mu vs 0.13mu (oops that goes to 9600) ... so nearly every way LOL!

PS. 256MB is pointless at the mo, nice to have and should ensure a quick sale when you sell the card on (because it sounds impressive) but as said before by the time something needs more than 128MB the current cards won't be fast enough for it anyway. It's much like ATA133 (vs ATA100) and AGP8x (vs AGP4x).
