    Question What monitor? CRT

Im looking to get a new CRT monitor which is 19", no lower no higher.

I have had a look around various websites and came up with two CRTs which seem to rival each other correct me if im wrong.
    These two CRTs are:
    Hyundai ImageQuest Q995
Samsung SM997MB (Different on the Samsung site )

Could you give your feedback on these 2 monitors as im having a tough choice deciding. The main purpose of the monitor will be to play lots of game
    Cheers guys

The Samsung will do a higher resolution (1920x1440) but that's at a max of 64Hz refresh rate which personally would hurt my eyes a bit. The Hyundai will do 1280x1024 at 85Hz which would appear more "solid" (i.e. less flicker) but I guess the Samsung will probably do 1280x1024 at a refresh of at least 75Hz which would be high enough.

One question tho - if you're considering spending as much as £123 (for the Samsung) plus shipping for a CRT, why not spend about the same on a 17" TFT (which offers almost as much viewing space as a 19" CRT) or a little more on a 19" TFT?

Geesh, where have all the CRT's gone. Just looked on OCUk, komplett and tekheads, and they have barely nothing.

Iam biased, cause i have one, but the NEC/Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB is awesome. 19", same technology screen.

    Does 1280x1024 at 100hz, and 1600x1200 at 85Hz.

Because CRT's have better viewing quality, for £123, the quality is going to be very good on a CRT, and shocking on a TFT, also CRT's have no native resolution, a huge plus for gamers.

I had the image quest and I gotta say it's a fantastic monitor. Two years on and it's still working like a dream.

I have a 19" D'Pro 920, which is comming on to four years old, and its still a craking scree, 1600X1200 easy peasy and at good refrsh.

There are quite a few knocking about on e-bay if you can pickup/pay a load for delivery. Still comes out better than getting a poor new one.

Make sure whatever you get has a flat fronted screen, its a must!

    Thanks guys you've helped alot!

The two new monitors people have mentioned seem to be worth a look at also. Its true Hz is alot when it comes to gaming and i think most people like 1024x768 resolution with >85Hz.
Anything lower than 85 you can normaly just see with your eyes (usualy when you look to the side of your screen as the sides of your eye pick up things like the Hz on a montor better than looking straight at it) although i dont see anything when its above 85Hz so im guessing that should be the minimum.
Also a very good comment on getting a flat surfaced CRT over the parabolic? ones, this ensures the actualy picture on the screen can be a perfect box shape. No matter how much you tweak the screen with a curved screen from at least one angle it will look rounded at the sides. Then again i might just be a bad tweaker ;] its certainly harder to tweak a curved screen.

Ohh and the reason i chose CRT over TFT for gaming is because mainly for the price of TFT you could get a hell of a good CRT monitor, true its slightly bigger but its performance usualy smashes that of the TFT at the same price range. There was another reason someone mentioned to me about why CRT and not TFT for gaming but for the life of me i can't remember (It could be that you cant get as good resolution/Hz with a TFT compared to CRTs).

Anyway thanks again for the help

You definatly want the flat screen one's, they all use the same technology in the screen, just they differ in what res, hz, etc they support, and price.

Does anyone manufacture black 21"+ crts anymore? I'm looking to purchase one but seemingly the market has died, I am hoping to spend under £400...
