About LinkBacksNot only does it look like my next generation system is going to cost an arm and a leg (AM2 CPU and mobo, DDR2 ram) but it looks a new graphics card will be needed and also a new monitor!

remember thats only if you're planning to watch hd-dvd or blu-ray - neither of which will be widely available for a year or 2.. i think you'd be best off just getting normal stuff as in 2 years time you'll upgrade anyways (and the view of whats available/standard will be much clearer)

Good point. Probably would work out cheaper as well to get an HDTV and HD/Blue Ray player rather than going for a PC HD based system.
Yeah not really bothered with this to be honest. I'll almost certainly upgrade by next year
And there will be ways around HDCP soon enough
Plenty of ways to enjoy HD on your "old" tech without any crazy HDCP-ness
