Who has a 7600 GT out there?

Last card was a 6800 (12 pipe) AGP 128MB, this is (obviously) at 7600GT 256MB PCI-Express.
As I posted before, I am happy with the product, but am less sure whether I should have waited to the next generation to have upgraded.
3dMark 2005 went from 3386 to 6337 (forgot to save scores - but I really did honest ).

very good answer. I used a 6800 Vanilla model once and it was a great card, no doubt.

The cleverness of the 7600 GT intrigues me, but what you say sounds similar to my concern. I have an AGP X800Pro currently, a superb card, but I think a 7800 GT or similar mybe more to my requirements.

The 7600 is also pulling me in as it seems to be hitting that sweetspot in terms of price/performance. However, there doesnt seem to be that many games that are due to appear that I would NEED it for - killer apps if you will. And when they DO appear, either this (and the cards above it) will have come down in price due to the newer generation.

But looking at the benchmarks - it would be a great replacement for my 6600GT - still deciding over this and the 7900GT - edging to the 7900 as i think that it may be better for that widescreen TFT I hopefully will be getting....

Well i can tell you that the 7600GT isnt underpowered, it moves all my games along nicely on my 1680 x 1050 display.
Main problem is that every previous upgrade has brought new features to DO new things that I couldnt before (Voodoo 3 -> GeForce 2 MX -> GeForce 4 Ti4200 -> 6800 -> now). This card doesnt do that, it just does what the last card did, but better.
But it it is in itself a very good card.

I wouldnt think you'd notice a sizable different going from an x800pro to a 7600gt judging by MSIC's scores. You'll get about 5000 with your x800pro right?

ahh..but going from AGP mobo (barton cpu etc) to Opteron neccesitates a new card!!

Not unless you get an Asrock Dual SataII 939 mobo! These have AGP and PCIe on them, and retail for about £40 (well it did when i got mine). Granted, you may want to splash out on a better board for overclocking your opteron as the board isnt the best in terms of BIOS, but I wanted to get into the 939 platform when the 146 was at a price too good to miss.

Only got mine at 2.5 - can do more but i think i need more volts. Still, thats pretty decent and depending on the types of game you play, they're most likely to be GPU limited anyway. Just a thought, but maybe you WANT to get a new GPU and want to justify it to yourself...nothing we all havent done a million times before

I also have the same motherboard. Was a good way of upgrading in increments, although I ultimately went to PCI-Express much quicker than I planned.
