    Cool OpenGL fix for softmodded 9800SE AIW

    Ok i expect this will get asked so here it is;

    If you get an 9800SE AIW and it mods ok, the current Catalyst drivers bomb out in OpenGL games- Il2:FB QuakeIII, Rtcw..... Read about it here http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4295.html

    When you install that driver OpenGL games should now work BUT you'll go back to lower performance. So what you need to do is get file ATI2MTAG.SYS from http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/ati2mtag.11774.zip Restart in safe mode and overwrite the one in C:/window/system32/drivers/ with the one you just downloaded. You MUST do it in safe mode else the file just gets replaced with the old one when you restart.

    Run 3D Mark2003 multi texturing test and you should be getting 2000-2600. If it hasn't worked you'll get between 1000-1400.

    Hope this helps.

    There's a fix that allows 9500/9700 o/c'ed cards to work in Windows rather than crashing ... that may be applicable here too. Also you don't need safe mode, you can patch or replace the file where you unpacked the dirvers to upon installing them (usually C:\ATI\blah blah), then just reinstall from there and it applies the patched file. That's how I do it anyway. One thing I find curious is your 3Dmark scores. Your 9800SE_AIW must surely be using 128bitDDR and/or low clocks! IIRC 9800PRO (which a modded 9800SE_256bitDDR shoudl equal) should score over 4000 in 3Dmark03 with everything on defaults. Are you using AA+AF perhaps?

    FWIW: My setup...

    XP2500+ @ 2.0ghz (400FSB & 1.55v runs cool).
    Rad9500PRO o/c'ed form 275/540 to 350/310.
    SCORE = 4200.
    With 9500PRO stock SCORE = 3600.

    austin - the score that skid is referring to is not the overall 3do3 score, only the multitexturing test, as this is the best indicater of no. of pipelines.

    i so wish i had a reason to buy one of these cards grrrr. *unfortunatley* i have a 9700 pro and a tv card. Still i love a good bargain. ie getting what you didn't pay for

    ^^^ what he said. I only use that test to check if the extra pipes are enabled, can't be arsed to run the whole suite

    Thanks for the tip about installing it in C:\ATI\.... of course, probably the best way to do.

    EDIT, nice fast machine you got there Mr Funnelhead!
