No contest. Even if the 9800se fails the mod and you have no need for the tivo features, its still a faster better card.

The cheap and mid range cards that have 256mb tend to have only 400 ish ddr memory and are quite clearly false ecconomy. What speed ddr is the 5600 you mention above?

softmod is easy. first download latest drivers from www.omegacorner.com and also read the readme.. then uninstall your current drivers/control panel thing and restart, then install the omega drivers and when it asks you will want the 9800pro mod

There's no contest there at all. The 9800SE is far and away superior in all depts. Ideally you want to ensure it uses 256bitDDR and 380/340 clocks but from what I hear all 9800SE_AIW do. 256MB is a waste, by the time it proves useful event he 9800 will probably struggle to run games ... plus as said you often get slower clocked RAM so it's way slower than the 128MB version. On top of all that it seems taht's the FX5600 which is seriously slower than the FX5600ultra which has 2 versions the faster of which is still well slower than the 9800SE. To put the final nail in the FX's coffin it's based on a flawed architecture and its future is a little suspect. No doubt at all buy the Rad9800SE_AIW out of those two although there are other otpions.
