    Question Remember dual GPU's?

Does anybody remember the days when dual GPU's were tried?

There was the ATI Rage Fury Maxx, then of course some of the voodoo 5 6000 (such a shame 3dfx died.)

Well now XGI is releasing one!

The volari duo, a DX9 dual GPU card.

    Check the pics:

    Two power connectors!

The pics are from a THG preview article.

The one thing to note is that XGI formed from the company that made the Xabre graphics cards, which were, erm... crap.

    Thoughts?

I had a voodoo 5500, that was dual and quite a beast in its day, still able to play MOHAA too, lets hope this follows in its powerful footprints

voodoo 5500 PCI rocks!! my bro can play 800x600x32 (low detail) battlefield with 64bots. xp1800 (11.5x133), KG7-RAID, 256mb DDR pc2700, and voodoo Just need some more RAM in it an itll run even better.

Hope this card isnt too expensive i.e. not twice the price. And like the voodoo i hope that you can do anti-aliasing on 1 chip if you want!! that rocks

the toms hardware thing said $450 or so, which puts it just below the 9800pro and the nvidia 5950 or whatever its called, but they still need to improve the drivers, as in some benchmarks it was right at the top with the 9800pro, and in some it was beaten by a fx5600

Well, got my fingers crossed for them. It's a brave company that decides to step into the ring with Nvidia and ATi.

Competition can only be a good thing - Nvidia ruled the roost with the 4200 ti - ATi bounced back with the 9700 and flattened them. With a 3rd company entering the ring, things might just get interesting

You got to remember that it's BETA hardware, with BETA drivers. You could equally argue that in some tests it's up at the top with the big boys.

Tests at this stage are meaningless.

i realised it, but didnt explicitly say it in this thread , but if the card is capable of such good performance in some tests with beta drivers, then that is definately a good omen for things to come

They have only managed to sort out dual CPU's, so how on earth can they do the same to GPU's? It sounds good but in practice does it work?
