digital flat panel moniter problem

the moniter has been working fine for over a year but then today,
the moniter turns on shows the bois screen like normal then when it shows the bootup screen it goes off after about one secound ie screen goes blank, but the blue ON light stays on any ideas?

I have had a feeling that its the back light.

how much are backlights to replace in £s?
but i want to know what you think it might be?
if you have an idea but want any more info just tell me

If it can display the bios screen properly that would suggest that the screen is working properly and that it is whatever operating system that you are booting into is only telling it to dosplay a black screen. You could try the monitor on a different pc to check that it is not the PC that is dead.

but right that pc right now and its working fine because i took my old 17inch CRT from my old pc.

so any other ideas?

i dont think i can because my old pc is an 5 year old dell.

Luckily monitor connections are one of the few things dell has standard so any computer with a DVI/VGA connector should work for testing. I would assume you have DVI from the thread title. Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI-D and see if it look the same.
