9800XT Probs - Not Enough Power ?

My current system specs are :

Asus Radeon 9800XT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Intel P4 2.4 @ stock speed
1 Gb OCZ DDR 3500 Ram (dual 2x 512)
2x Maxtor 80Gb SATA drives in raid
CD-R drive
and....
Zalman 400w PSU

I have had some problems with the 9800XT which I got last week - someone suggested that the power supply I have is not big enough. I was wondering what you guys thought, and if I needed a new one which should I go for?

The problems I have had with the 9800XT are lockups, artifacts and alot of sparklies. Using Cat3.9s with the patch.

That psu should be fine tbh... could be a heat problem with the card? Try taking the side of the case off, maybe blowing a desktop fan into the pc (if you have one). Might be worth a try to see if the XT is overheating.

does the ATi card have an optional additional power supply to it, heard a rumour....
not sure though ,so may be talking crap

what you could do is under clock the card
see if the core or memory is running too hot/fast
may be a fault on the card or as Ethos says, over heating

Tried taking the case side off but that doesn't make any difference.

There's no power supply for the 9800XT, but there is a 4 pin molex connector if thats what you mean DizMatt.
