    This isn't right...

I bought a 7900GS to upgrade me from my X800XL, however something isn't quite right.

Even at stock speeds it scores only around 4900 on 3dMark05 with my Venice Chip @ 2520 so it's not massively holding it back.

I got around those scores for my X800XL so thats why I am quizzing it as I was expecting something more around the 7000 Mark.

I have reinstalled the drivers (after removing the ATI drivers fully using dtiver cleaner pro, reboot to safe mode and all that malarky)

And tried again with the full WHQL (91.47 drivers - I had 92.xx) and the same thing is happening. I would have thought that it would let me turn the settings up on my games, but games are still a bit jerky at random times i.e. BF2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, btw the PSU is a 580W Type R Modular, and I'm using the ASUS A8n SLI Deluxe mobo.

    Cheers

Please help me this is causing a lot of aggro.

I have made sure that the fan is working and is spinning and my voltage levels are rock stable.

I have practically checked everything, but what settings could be affecting the performance (bearing in mind I am doing the tests at 1024*768) with no AA/AF etc.

Strange thing is that the GPU never seems to get hotter than 45 degrees, even after playing HD movies, tests, benchmarks games etc, so either the cooler is doing really well (Palit) or the work isnt being done by the graphics card. My games are a bit choppy and I want to get it sorted

    Thanks in anticipation

Have you got the latest drivers? and have you checked its running at the correct clockspeeds (in 3d mode, not 2d)?

I tried originally the (2.x drivers available on guru3d so i fell back on the officially released WHQL drivers - 91.47 > the most recent drivers NVidia have released.

How can I check that it is running at the correct speeds, i.e. 3d mode not 2d? I have used Rivatuner and it reports the clockspeed as being correct. The same things happen for overclocked and stock settings :S

Try reinstalling motherboard drivers + directX - sometimes going from ati to nvidia and vice versa is a pain (I'm not looking forward to doing the reverse).

I will try some new motherboard drivers now, but I have updated directx to the most recent versions and 3dmark06 had to install an extra add on thing for it :s

Go start>Run>dxdiag. Under the display tab, make sure all 3 features say enabled.

Also make sure you have your 3D settings set to performance, sometimes the drivers force AA+AF over the top of 3Dmark(and everything else), that'll lower your score a lot.

ok well now i am in a bit of a connundrum, i downloaded the latest chipset drivers for my nforce4 motherboard, so i uninstalled the ones it asked me to on nvidias homepage, and restarted the pc, but since then i have been unable to logon to the computer.

in safe mode or normal mode it will go to the sign in screen and then freeze, i.e. i am unable to use the mouse (PS2 or USB) however during boot i can use the keyboard to press F8 etc.

    any help much appreciated...

Does it give you the option for last known good configuration (f8 at boot I think)?

i had that exact problem recently turned out it was because windows was trying to load a driver which was not there, in my case a gamepad driver of all things quite why/how this caused it to mess up like it did tho i don't know

luckily for me i had an old windows installation on my backup drive so i could use that to replace the file it wanted, in your case im not sure that replacing the files is a realistic option , you may have to repair the windows installation from the xp cd

Sounds like you removed too many things with driver cleaner pro! You can try booting from a floppy/boot-cd (or even linux on CD) and copying the files to the right place.. but it's tricky to know what ones you need. Windows repair may be needed.

Unless your motherboard CD is bootable (ASrock ones are I think!)

i really dont want to reinstall windows; my board is an a8n sli deluxe, and the pc was fine after the driver cleaner and reboot.

it was only after i tried updating the mobo drivers, it asked me to uninstall it and then reboot so i did and since then it hasnt booted since, i just get stuck on the sign on screen, where the keyboard and mouse is unresponsible.

I remember something about driver cleaner removing motherboard drivers. I cant seem to find anything on Google right now though. I'm a bit busy though, hopefully you can find something useful.
