    Monitor Advice

I am looking to get a 2nd monitor to help with my 3d modelling. It helps to not have to keep minimising windows to look at references etc... So Far I've got a 19" running at 1280x1024. I'm looking to get a monitor that can run 1600x1200 but not too expensive.

I'm not sure If I like the idea of a wide screen monitor as not a lot of games have wide screen support and wide screen displays have less pixels.

I've had a look at these 2 what are your thoughts?

    The Dell

    The Iiyama

I thought so... it looks a lot nicer too. Does anyone recommend anything else?

Spitfire01 If your on a budget u may be interested in this Dell launches budget 20" LCD (207WFP) as u can see it's missing the many connections of the 2007WFP, not sure about uk availability though.

I got the 2007WFP a couple of months ago & it is excellent. Am running it with out the box settings at native 1680x1050. I was a widescreen virgin but am totally hooked now. Wide screen is 2 a4 pages which is great for
    applications.

Thanks for the help guys...I'm still not overly sold on the widescreen aspect, but I think I will get a Dell one, most places I've checked recommend Dell's monitors. Just a shame Scan doesn't have a wider selection of Dell monitors.

Got mine on a "this week only" offer from ocuk, with a4 year rather than 3 year warrant. Dell also has deals so i'd shop around should be around £300.

    luck

if you don't wanna spend so much on a dell, pc world are currently selling a Samsung 205BW for £200. The only thing I've heard the dell has over it is the real world response time. check out this page for a great comparison:

    http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=637&page=8

other than that the samsung beats it in most other areas, and is £100 to £200 cheaper than 2007wfp. that said, there's a monitor by LG (the L204WT) that may be even better.

i'm not too sure about wide screen stuff either, but i'm about to find out... and as for pixels, just get a bigger widescreen.

    Iiyama has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201U04) panel.

    Dell has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201U04) panel.

so they're the same panel, just boxed differently

that Samsung has a 20 inch 6 ms TN panel so instead of displaying 16.7 million colours like the Dell and Iiyama it only displays 262,000.. thats a major put off tbh..

From what I understand, the panel used in the Samsung 205BW is a Chungwa CLAA201WA03Q (also used in the LG 204WT) and is an 8-bit TN panel that does display either 16.2m or 16.7m colours depending on where you look (though the former seems to suggest 6-bit).

check this out for the non-Q version:

    http://www.ccw.com.cn/diynew/view/ht...2_209209_3.htm

dunno what the Q means but if it means an extra 0.7m colours then i'm a happy man...

EDIT: Bobster's right, most 205bw's do use a 6 bit panel but many have said it looks identical to 8 bit monitors they've used. if you're lucky and live in canada, you *may* end up with a true 8 bit panel (see http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.ph...5&postcount=17 ).

also check out http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...forum.php?f=40 for widescreen monitor reviews.

ok so its using the newer tech that let TN displays show 6bit and then changes the colour so fast the human eye finds it hard to detect so it infact will show 16.2 mil

This is another 6+bit TN panel though right?

The S-IPS ones such as the non-budget dell are much nicer.

Yikes, and only $260 in the states.. that seems like a more accurate cost for the quality..
