IE Not Loading
I am trying to help a friend sort his pc which is no longer loading IE. When he clicks on the Tiscali Broadband icon IE eventually reports an error and does not load. The error is not specific and occurs no matter what way I try and get IE to run. Any suggestions???

Seriously, it sounds as if the problem could be with the ADSL aspect of tge connection. I assume he is using a USB modem to connect, which when they work work quite well, but can be a pain to truble shoot. What operating system is he using? (Which version of windows) Does it work if he is logged onto the machine as an administrator? Is IE the only way of connecting? Has he tried reloading the Tiscali provided software? If all helse fails, there is the Tiscali help desk, although I'm not sure what the costs for that areor how helpful they may may be. Sadly budget ADSL connections don't always provide first class help facilities (they have to keep the costs down)

Few things you could try here.
Re install IE from the Tiscali disc, or download from Microsoft.
Do a repair on the XP installation, this is similar to doing a fresh install but all your files etc are safe. You can do this from the boot from CD option on the XP disc in DOS. If you are on an NTFS file system and the CD wont boot grab a great free program called NTFS4DOS and create a NTFS Dos disc. This will allow you to run setup and repair from a DOS environment.
Finally just grab another web browser, I will second Firefox. Been using it a while now and it is really good, only potential problem is getting online with something to get new files.
Would be worthwhile downloading a few web browsers etc and put them onto a cd to take over to the friends house.

Thanks for the reples. I think I will try and repair the OS (Win XP) from the disk. Failing this I will suggest he uses Firefox. I downloaded it myself today and have already installed and am using it. Not bad at all. I have even deleted IE from my machine. So as a fallback I can put my download on to a memory stick and load on his machine if all else fails....

you could always get him to use a different browser, and then do a windows update and get the latest version of IE
