    Intel Matrix RAID question

I am running my OS on RAID1, with the pagefile on a RAID0 partition.

If i remove one drive (simulated failure) should the OS still boot?
Or do i need to plug in a second HDD for it to rebuild, before it will boot windows?

Because the other day, i accidently disconnected one of my HDDs while plugging in a USB header, and it failed to boot (no o/s detected, please insert system disk). I plugged the other drive back in, and it booted and then in windows, and rebuilt.

In this review, they swap one of the drives for a third drive, and boot, they don't just remove one drive.

It seems kinda pointless if i need to buy a third drive to be able to boot from my RAID1 volume, if one of my drives fails.

Im not familiar with intels implementation. Raid 1 as you suggest *should* boot from the single funtioning drive, with no changes made and you get a message from the controller bios or the software when in windows.

every raid card i have used, too many to list over the years has done this.

the single drive should be bootable on its own and not part of any raid array, i.e. in another machine, another controller etc...

Reading the intel docs, it doesnt say you should be able to boot, but *sounds* that way, bit pap really.
