Question Why the JMicron Screen at Bootup ?

What is the purpose of the JMicron "Press any key to continue" screen at bootup ? It seems to serve no purpose except irritation for me haha. Is there a way to stop it from showing? I have one SATA HHD and One DVD IDE drive.

What make of mobo? What OS? What BIOS? What is the relevance of JMicron? - what is the relevance of the HDD drives? Posts like this are almost impossible to answer without some meaningful information! Help others to help you!

ASUS P5KC ....BIOS 0701.....XP Pro....Relevance is, The Jmicron RAID controller also controls the IDE instead of the ICH9. I am not running RAID. The JMicron forces the DVD drive to run in PIO instead of DMA (which stinks). I don't utilize the JMicron for RAID, just wondering if it was possible to disable this screen.

Disable the RAID, enable AHCI mode, install the JMicron AHCI drivers in Windows XP. It shouldn't pester you for key inputs during BIOS init after that.

Disable the JMicron RAID/SATA controller in the BIOS? It shouldn't effect the PATA drives. Not tried it myself as I use the SATA feature, and it's not as if it adds much to the boot time. Is your life really so hectic that you need to get those 2 seconds per boot back?

On my P5K Deluxe board if I disable JMicron it all so disables the PATA drives to, but if you have SATA HD's and SATA DVD RW then by all means disable it.

The JMicron is for the IDE ports as the chipset doesnt have native support.
Use IDE? Then you need it enabled.

AFAIK, there is no way to remove it if you use IDE. Although the "press any key" thing will go after a few seconds
It most certainly does support DMA though - you may not have the drivers installed / it set correctly in your BIOS.

Well it is now running in DMA ......Thanks folks for your replies, I'll just have do deal with the "press any key to continue" screen....lol, but I will be getting a SATA DVD drive soon.

You will also need JMicron for the eSata port
