    Resolution problem

    Hi all.

I have an Acer AL1916W monitor and i am unable to get it to run in the max resolution of 1440x900. It currently only runs at 1360x768.

I think the problem may be that windows is not recognising the monitor correctly. Nvidia control panel labels the monitor as CRT.

My OS is windows Vista Ultimate and my graphics card is an 8800gts running the 162.22 drivers.

Any help with this problem would be massively appreciated.

It would seem like a 'driver problem ' if you can't go to max res for monitor . Try going into 'device manager' if such a item exist on vista ( or equivalent) and see what driver is quoted in there.

    Re: Resolution problem

I've tried other forceware drivers and rolling back to older versions of the nvidia drivers and still no luck. So i dont think its drivers, but thanks for offering!

    Re: Resolution problem

It would appear, from what you have said, that Vista is not recognising your monitor correctly.

Do you power your monitor off when you turn the computer off ? And if so, do you start your computer up before powering your monitor on again ?

It's a long shot, but if your not turning your monitor on until after your computer has started then windows will not always recognise your monitor correctly as it polls the monitor for it's manufacturer information during the boot process..

Other than that, it's possible the monitor cable is causing the problem, if it's possible to disconnect the monitor cable at both ends, try turning it around and reconnecting it (ie move the plug that was in the graphic card to the connector on the monitor instead, and vice versa'.

Failing this, do you have another computer you can test the monitor on to see if it's identified correctly there ?

See if you can find the "Custom Resolution" tab in the Nvidia control panel, and add that 1440x900 resolution.

    Re: Resolution problem

Have you tryed installing monitor drivers ?

Have you tryed setting the resolution in the nvidia options ?

You can force the resolution by using some program but I've forgotten what it is called

Following on from this, are you using DVI or VGA? My Dell monitor didn't play nice with my cards when using VGA, but switching cabling/connectors sorted it out completely - XP showed it as a 2407WFP instead of "Generic Monitor" and generally got a grip.
