    Broken external harddrive?

    My friend mailed me a Buffalo Drivestation 500GB today and when I power it on it keep buzzing at 1 second inteval. I can feel it vibrating while it is buzzing.

    I wonder whats wrong with it...

    Any chance of it working if I pull it out of the box?

    I would open it up and try it in a PC.

    Btw Buffalo have 2-year warranty on products.

    Took it apart and it still giving out buzzing/clicking sound)

    about half a second of buzzing/vibrating and clicked a few times.

    Gotta RMA it, there goes my 500GB data...

    Sounds like classic HDD failure - just a quick reminder - if you don't back it up - you're happy to lose it! - or in for a surprise. Read the forums - disks die, polititians lie and taxes rise...
