Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 7000 & alternative USB Dongle ?

I have a MS Desktop Entertainment Desktop 7000 & tbh I'm a bit dissapointed with its range. Sometimes it loses connection to keybd & mouse or you can be typing and this sort of thing happens sssssssssss!

So i bought a belkin USB dongle from Argos that will apparently do greater distances - the problem is I need the MS dongle in to install it as I don't have any wired keybds or mice. I couldn't get it to work when I removed the MS one after installation.

So has anyone any ideas of how I could get this to work or any suggestions for a wireless keybd/mouse or keybd/trackerball that I could use?

I've always used logitech wireless keyboards and mice and never had a problem.

Thanks I did as well up until around a year ago & took the setup I havd at that time back to PCW as was terrible - Poor range & always losing connection, kind of put me off them a bit tbh

I think you have to pair the devices up with the new dongle. Maybe hold down the bluetooth reset button on each device? I have the MS Desktop Entertainment 8000 set but don't have another bluetooth dongle to test it unfortunately.

The belkin device doesn't have a button like the MS one- think I'm gonna return it. Have ordered some new rechargeable batteries as the ones I'm using in the keyboard now are a few years old maybe this is the problem with my setup?

I have a Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 7000 keyboard as well. I have moved house recently and now I sit further away from my HTPC (about 11 feet). Now it is very unresponsive, and does tthhhhiiiisssss sort of thing all the time, which drives me crazy.

I'm considering getting a long USB extension cable, which I can route alongside the wall, so that it is close to my sofa, but that is a pretty messy solution.

So, Alistair, did getting a different Bluetooth dongle help in the end? ie. is the problem not the transceiver in the keyboard itself?
