Asus P5k Premium wont recognize dual channel memory

    Hello,

I just put together a system with a p5k Premium.

    I have 1gb x2 of Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 1066 PC 8500.

The motherboard will only boot up with a single stick in (I've tried both and they both boot up by themselves) ,but will not boot up with both in either the yellow or black memory slots.

I placed 1 stick in the first yellow and 1 stick in the first black slot and it read them fine, but as single channel. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure they have to be in the same color slots to be running in dual channel right?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Asus P5k Premium wont recognize dual channel memory

As Lucio says, that memory required 2.2v to boot reliably on the P5K range of boards, its default voltage is 2.2v and the board only supplies 1.8v by default. You need to change it in the BIOS.

The only way I could do this was to boot with one stick of slower RAM and then force the BIOS to 2.2v save and switch off, then replace the Crucial memory.

My board is a P5K Deluxe.
