help with memory geil 800mhz

i have 4gb of 6400udc ang cant get my rig to work it freezes ive once got into windows xp but if froze after a couple of minutes. It was also seen as 4 gig in the bios so what can the trouble be ive tried 3 voltages the auto and 2.083 and finally 2.1? what ever it is in the asus bios. timming of 4-4-4-12 any1 have any ideas

Just have 2gb in and i bet it boots.
XP isn't too clever at 4gb and even if it did boot with 4gb in, XP certainly won't recognise it.

First off try upping the voltage to it. There is no 4gb issue in XP with regards to it booting.
XP won't recognise the full 4gb due to hardware limitations. Its nothing to do with XP

You can use 4gb and XP fine, you just wont be able to use the full amount. If you search my posts, I've gone into real detail of the issue

Ive booted in to xp and it works for a few minutes the freezes ive upped the voltage to just under 2.3v and its making no difference

When ive checked its seeing the normal 3.5gb i dare not give any more voltage incase it ***s it up. ive been on the geil site and there seems to be alot of people with this problem and they are told to up the volts but i havent read any stories where thats worked.

Did i metion that i have 4gb of corsair in and thats never been any trouble ive had to put my old ram back in till i can find a answer i guess its right better the devil you know and i bet im not going to see that much difference from 667 to 800/900 so you ask is it worth the agro.

Someone else here plus myself have no problem with Geil at 1.9v in winxp or vista or O/C, your problem is either faulty memory or lies elsewhere.........this is with 2gb and as in previous post try that amount.

Pretty sure I've seen problems reported with many motherboards trying to run 4GB of RAM at better than 667 MHz. Try underclocking the RAM to 667 and see if it becomes stable.

What happens if you run pre-OS tests, like memtest?

This is very interesting... I was about to buy another 2x 1GB GeIL DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 to go with the identical stuff I've got. I knew I wouldn't be able to access all 4GB in XP, but I'm interested to know what this freezing problem is about...

i will get backto it a little later was going to try it in my other Am2 rig see if it shows the same problems i never thought to run mem test on it thanx for your help i will let you know when i play with it later myonly worry is destroying my rig.
