Re: cd drives not detected
I take it the BOIS still detects them?
Are they showing in the drive manager in control panel?
Re: cd drives not detected
Yeah they are showing in drive manager with a yellow ?
Re: cd drives not detected
Was anything installed/uninstalled prior to the error?
Just trying to narrow it down
Re: cd drives not detected
the only thing i did was to upgrade his memory, everything was working fine after
Re: cd drives not detected
Sounds like master and slave conflict but you haven't changed any drives
Re: cd drives not detected
Can't hurt checking they're set right tho.
Re: cd drives not detected
no, no drives have been changed.
A mate a work thinks it could be the motherboard on it's way out
Re: cd drives not detected
Not necessarily, so worry ye not, yet ;)
If the error message is stating a registry error, there's a good chance that's exactly what it is.
I seem to recollect having a similar prob in Win98 once cured by a registry hack. It may be a case of uninstalling the drives, switching off, swapping them slave/master & re-booting, forcing windows to re-detect them.
Re: cd drives not detected
I'm up ther on sun for lunch (carn't beat your mums sun roasts) i'll check the master and slave settings.
any other ideas i could do?
Re: cd drives not detected
rite ok i'll av a go on sunday let you know how it goes
Re: cd drives not detected
Hi folks
Tried the registry hack as metioned above, Windows detected that there was new hardware. When trying to install get this message
Windows cannot start this hardware devive because it's configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19).
HELP
Re: cd drives not detected
Did you check the master slave config ?
Perhaps you could disconnect one of the drives via the IDE cable, one at a time in turn to see if one or the other has developed a fault ?
Re: cd drives not detected
yeah i checked the master slave config, even changed them round,
i'll try disconnecting one drive and see if that makes a difference
Re: cd drives not detected
I've now tried the following to no effect
disconnected one drive from the IDE cable then the other
Done the IQON system recovery
Uninstalled the drives and booted pc from safemode undr last known good configuration.
Was thinking of a bios update, not sure how you go about it
