    AVG Kernel Error

    Hi,

Yesterday i tried to install BitDefender. At the time i still had AVG free installed on my PC, and bitdefender said it would remove it for me, so i agreed. It appeared to remove ok, then the install of bitdefender started. The bitdefender install failed, and when i rebooted my PC i got a Kernel Error from AVG. I went to my programs list and tried to uninstall it and it says that there is no install there, so i went to Start -> Programs -> AVG and tried to use AVG's uninstall, the uninstall failed.

    Starting to get quite annoyed...

Does anyone know of a manual way of removing AVG Free?

    (Im using Vista Home Premium)

    Cheers

    Dan

    Re: AVG Kernel Error

Sounds like you've got a rogue registry entry somewhere, relating to AVG. Have a serach through the registry is you feel comfortable.

    Re: AVG Kernel Error

Ive had a brief look thru myself and scanned it with Uniblue Registry Booster, it found 15 faults, one of which was an AVG file, but i am still getting the error, even after deleting the bad registry files.

I have stopped it from running on startup, so its not annoying me every time i boot up, but the fact that it is sitting on my PC is annoying enough.

...or do a full over the top install. Dirty and messy, but unless you want to spend hours fannying around, you may have little option.

Already tried to do a full install over the top, that fails too. Looks like manual remove is going to be the only way

    Re: AVG Kernel Error

    Try CCleaner's unistall option.

Open it up and hit the Tools button.

In fact use it to clean up if that fails.

Lol i tried that too, read about it on the net last night, the uninstall did'nt work because all it did was open up AVG's uninstaller, which keeps failing.

I did do a clean up, but that didnt really fix anything, just got rid of some temp files.

What ever i try just seems to run AVG's uninstaller program, which just keeps failing.

I think the only way to do it is to manually go thru and delete every file/reg entry related to AVG. Does anyone have a list of all the AVG files and registry entires?

    Re: AVG Kernel Error

Well rather than guessing where everything is in Vista. Contact Grisoft either via the forum or email and see what instructions they give out.
