    Vista Installations Troubles!

I'm having an issue at the moment installation vista. At the setup stage after the product key is entered at the expanding files stage it gets to about 15% and fails with an error about files not being available on the installation media. I burnt another disc and get the same problem. Another three discs later and also throwing vista x64 into the mix still results in the same error. I have tried installating to three different hard drives all with no success. I have also run the installation from two dvd drives and get the same error.

I'm at a bit of a loss what could be wrong as all hard drives worked in a previous computer and indeed one of the drives which already contains data is 100% working when used in conjunction with an old ide hard drive with xp installed on it.

I hope someone can help me solve this, first time I have ever had this happen. Had many succesful installs before, just now its not working

And the vista images I'm using are obtained from MSDN : AA if anyone was dubious about me referring to burning vista images!

The image you are burning could be corrupt. Is there a checksum or hash you can verify it against?

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

If there isn't a checksum available, try extracting the contents using Winrar. If it expands fine, there isn't likely to be an issue with the image.

In fact, if it extracts fine, try burning it using vLite (google it) to make the disk bootable and see if that works.
Is it always erroring on the same file when used on different media?

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

If the specs in his My System are correct it says he has 4Gb ram, isnt there a problem with installing vista when you have more than 2Gb ram installed?

I'll give that a go, its odd I'm having these problems. Its always worked fine before!

I'm not aware of any problems with installating vista on a system with more than 2 gigs of ram installed, i'll give that a google to. Thanks everyone who replied

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

I didn't hear anything about problems with more than 2GB on Vista during installation.
I have 32bit & 64bit Ultimate versions on my PC and also installed 64bit Basic on my mate PC, both with 4GB RAM and everything was working fine.
You can try to download new image from MSDN as it's the most probably that image is invalid.

PS: I've the same memory as you

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

There were many with the RAM issue with vista, Don't know the details of it, whether it was 4X1gig sticks or if the problems been sorted on the later vista discs but there were many on here with the issues a few months back. I just installed 2X1gig first and then added the others later.

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

Thanks for the further replies. The problem ended up being both my dvd drives! I grapped a dvd drive from my housemate in my uni house and the installation went from start to finish fine! The image was fine all along, just my dvd drives to blame. Odd but its all fixed now

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

In relation to Vista install issues relating to RAM, my HTPC wont install Vista if I have both 1Gb sticks of DDR2 in the board. I have to install Vista with just 1 stick un and put the second one in later. Weird, especially given that the RAM is 100% ok in memtest.

    Re: Vista Installations Troubles!

I installed Vista Business with 4 x 1gb sticks and had no problems what so ever. I have also installed Vista from image files given by the MSDN AA and I experienced the same problem with my DVD drives!

I think it was because they were so old that they couldn't recognise everything because as soon as I put in a new drive they worked fine.
