Before I got this PC (around october time) I backed up alot of data from my old computer, I checked all the disks worked (except 1, and funnily enough it doesn't work at all) and formatted. Now the bother is actually trying to get it on to the new PC, it's been like this since I got it but I just brushed it aside.
Transferring the data is extremely slow, the progess bar just sometimes gives up the ghost and maybe 40 minutes later it's done. Sometimes the timer jumps between 29minutes and 2 minutes. All the while I can do nothing, I tried to open opera, pc froze, the same with windows media player, mozilla, basically anything. It also takes forever to read the disk, once I put it in I have to wait a good while before I even dream about opening 'my computer', otherwise it will just freeze and a restart is required. This is really irritating as normal DVD's work no bother, such as games and the like. Just the ones with all the important stuff on them don't!
Could it be a fault with the DVD drive? SATA controller? Disks (although they worked fine on the older PC)?
Specs:

DFI Infinity CFX3200 M2/G
IBM/Hitachi 500GB Sata @ 7200rpm 16mb
DVD Drive (LiteOn Sata): Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
4Gb DDR2 800 (was at 2 originally, didn't matter)

I am quite stumped on this, I've changed the socket the drive is connected to and everthing else works fine
Any ideas?
