    New Rig Problems

Hi hopefully someone can give me a few pointers basically what has happened is i build my system (storage server)

    Pentium E2140
    1GB of Generic RAM
    Asus P5L-MX Motherboard
    250GB SATAII HDD
Using the build in sound and VGA
    530w Hiper PSU

Ok basically i tryed turning it on and nothing i mean it powers up the HDD spins up DVD drive works i get power to everything but i get no post beep and no montior output. The funny thing is that if i take the RAM out so theres none in there and i turn it on then i get beeps saying that there is no RAM and ofc it does not post with no RAM in.

I put the RAM back in and same again no beeps but everything spins up now to me it seems like i payed the price for getting cheap RAM but i was just wondering if anyone could confirm my thoughts or have any other ideas.

I thought it might be the board thats dead but with it giving beeps when there no RAM in i am not so sure now.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: New Rig Problems

Yeah i read your thread acually you are even getting the same beeps as me when i remove the RAM most likey as trying to boot without the RAM is causing that post beep, only thing is i don't think its my PSU as i am sure i have way the wattage to supply the system i have not to mention its a named one just seems abit off thats why i thought it was the RAM as when i removed it i got a respose and with it in i did'nt.

Not sure about you tho as i got abit confused but on my board when i have to plug the power in for the Motherboard you have the long 20 pin connector and the 4 pin connector normally near the CPU and as far as i know on all boards you plug both of these in however on my board theres another 4 pin connector thats right next to the 20pin on the same set of plastic and will only fit there not sure if it has to be plugged in or not tbh i tryed it bother ways still nothing tho.

    Re: New Rig Problems

i have all my connectors in, i also thought it was the ram as it was first time i had any beeps from the board since i finished it but apparently it is my PSU where the problem lies, tomorrow im going to a computer shop to see if they can try a better PSU and see if there is any response, if there is which i really hope there will be then ill be buying a better PSU.

Also i calculated my wattage and mine was also fine but it was something to do with the voltage output. What make/model is your PSU?

It seems whatever the problem is, we both have it.

Not sure what the problem is with your system, but from the description above I think you're refering to the 24-pin atx connector which really needs to be connected (well, all 24-pins of it).
At some point psu's went from being atx 1.x to atx 2.x which meant they now use a 24 pin connector rather than a 20 pin, but to allow you to use the newer 24-pin psu's in older motherboard's some manufacturers have the last 4-pins split off slightly from the other 20 pins.
Hope that clears it up a bit
