Last week I rebuilt my PC with a few upgrades; a motherboard, hard drive, graphics card and RAM; and as I replaced my two hard drives with this single one I've installed XP on the new one.
I used the same ide LG DVD-RAM drive as in my last build, which did work fine. Everything was as normal during Windows installation, no hiccups and relatively painless. But now if I try to put some discs in the PC I get various problems. I'll list these below, but I know they all work fine in other PCs.
Quake IV and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 - PC freezes as soon as the discs goes in, I take it out and it unfreezes after a couple of seconds
Oblivion - Starts to install, gets half way through and I receive a "cyclical redundancy" error
Film played with VLC - Plays as normal, until about an hour in when it starts to stutter and becomes unbearable to watch
What's the culprit in this situation? Until I find out I'm having to download drivers and I'm downloading endless amounts of demos and buying up huge quantities of steam games as I can't install the games I'd brought in preparation ~ hardly an ideal situation.
Thanks in advance
