    Long beep on motherboard

Ok!! so I changed my Power supply unit (PSU) when it died. Got a new one installed but when I switched it on, a long continous beep came on immediately.

Mobo is a SuperMicro X5DAE. The old PSU was an Ablecom SP450-RP...the new one is an Antec True 550.

I've tried taking out the RAMs, video cards, sound cards, etc...but still the same noise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Long beep on motherboard

First hit on google Beeps. I'm not familiar with the motherboard so no idea what BIOS is installed.

Looks like "No Power, Loose Card, or Short." for continuous beep is the diagnosis.

Depends how the old PSU died. It is possible that it took something out with it - however I would double check that all the connectors are in place and that you didn't dislodge something when you changed it. You also need to decode the bleep as the foist poster suggested. That will point you in the right direction and help avoid the WNCC approach to fault finding. (Willy nilly component change)

    Re: Long beep on motherboard

I think a long beep is GPU related.

    Re: Long beep on motherboard

According to here it's a Phoenix BIOS.

    [REMOVED LINK]

I'd personally start with PSU and mobo and seeing what beep code you get and move from there.

    Re: Long beep on motherboard

That link to the Phoenix bios goes to a pretty old BIOS (ISA/MCA/EISA) architecture - might be worth looking to see if there is a more up to date one as the codes may have changed.

    Re: Long beep on motherboard

My apologies on the old Beep Codes.

I just used the first link or so from google.

Much better is the PDF file from Phoenix themselves found here.
