    4gb install but only see 3gb in welcome center!!

    i have vista ultimate for op. when i install 4gb of ram it only appear as 3gb. what can i do? is it okay to leave it in there even though it only appear 3gb?

    Are you running a x32 bit version of Vista? that's probably why...


    yes its fine to leave the full 4gb there, it just wont get used fully

    Have a quick search of this forums, this is covered many times a week

    In short: For 32 bit, this is normal. If its 64bit, you'll need to enable memory remapping in the BIOS

    if u update to sp1 then it will show 4.0g

    True, but that doesn't mean it can use the full 4gb as per 64bit Vista.

    yay for sp1. rather than saying "i can see this much memory", it now says "there's this much memory in the machine, i'm not admitting i can't see a bunch of it"

    is that an improvement?
