Something changed my mouse cursor on my machine

    Hi All,

I got up this morning and something has changed my mouse on my machine. The standard arrow icon is still there, but when I hover over some text, I get the normal line icon but it has a pink highlighter next to it. Obviously I'm a little worried by this because I hate programs that install themselves because I have no idea what it's doing to my system.

I've not installed anything recently (to my knowledge anyway), I run a software firewall/antivirus (Nod Security Suite) and a hardware firewall through my router. I've run hijack this, and spybot S&D and there's nothing obvious in there.

Anyone have any idea what this is or how I can track down what has been installed? I've look through my system event log and there's nothing in there that I can see.

    Any help gratefully received.

Do you have children? sounds like some little elves have been at work there... Anyway, have you notice any toolbars appear in you web browser? Right click the toolbar at the top if you can't see any and look if there are any in that list that just aren't visible. Uninstall, restart and see what happens.

You could also look through Add/Remove Programs, look for programs like 'Smiley Central'. Try sorting by 'date last used' and looking at the recently installed. If you still have no joy you could always try a system restore to before you noticed the change and if you are still at a loss you can manuall alter the cursor in Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers (Tab) back to Windows Default...

If you still have no joy let us know

Thanks for the reply I don't have children and I'm the only one using the machine. It turns out it was a problem with my graphics tablet driver, it's all fixed now.
