    A quick ram question...

basically in my system right now i have 2x512mb corsair pc4400 ddr ram, although its only running at pc3200 i cant really be bothered to overclock it all and fart about but i was wondering if i could chuck in another two 512mb sticks of pc3200 basically i got another gig of twinmoss ram sitting around and i really think my system would benefit with another gig, is it possible to run both sets so i'd have 4x512mb in my comp as long as obviously the timings were set to run at the twinmoss (slower) settings.

    Re: A quick ram question...

yupp that should be fine (as long as you have another two slots )

I dont see why they shouldnt work!

Why dont you have a go anyway seeing youve already got them!...the worst that can happen is having to take them out again!

    Re: A quick ram question...

I guess you right. or worst case would be having to reset the cmos if it decides it wont post (my bios is a right fusspot )

i'll let u know how it goes...

    EDIT

my notoriously fussy and unstable bios strikes again, i installed another two 512mb sticks and got no further than the post screen until i removed them. last time i checked the ram was fine, bios update might be in order i think...?

    Re: A quick ram question...

make sure that you put the slower ram in slots 1&2, or 1&3 (depending on how your motherboard is laid out) so that it will detect and run at the slower speeds - otherwise your likely to get lots of crashes if it will even boot at all

    Re: A quick ram question...

ok, it took a bios update but i know have 4x512mb dimms installed in all four slots, windows doesnt seem to think its a performance increase according to that score thing in vista but any system would benefit from an extra gig of ram even if the timings did have to be relaxed, right?

    EDIT

just realised with the limitations of my rubbish mobo having four dimms installed means only pc2700
