Hi all,
I've just purchased a new server (HP ProLiant ML115) for home, but it has 4 SATA connectors and 1 IDE connector. It comes with 1 160GB SATA HD and 1 ATA DVD-ROM.
This is fine, however, I've 4 drives that are all ATA that I'd like to use where possible. Of that, 2 are 160GB that I want to use for RAID 1 (the server has onboard RAID).
On top of this, I've also a Promise FastTRAK TX2000 ATA controller.
I've also read and seen that SATA to ATA connectors can be purchased.
Therefore, I'm after some expert advice from the users here of what my options are, or could be?
Should I use the onboard RAID controller, or the Promise? Can I connect my old HD's using the Promise controller?
Ideally, I'd like this for a scenario;
2 SATA drives in RAID 1 using the onboard controller
2 ATA drives in RAID 1 using the Promise controller
Will/should this work?
Failing that, if I have to buy 2 new SATA drives, will the nForce RAID controller allow for 2 x RAID 1 configs? So, OS and Program Files on 1 array and then data on another array? So 2 RAID 1 arrays running at the same time?
I'd love to do RAID 5, but I don't believe my board supports it, just 0 and 1. Unless I'm wrong!?
If anyone needs any additional info, please let me know.
Thanks in advance, and here's hoping someone can help me stop scratching my head.
