    Re: nv_disp4.dll error

Well I have changed my card for a 6800 ultra - and the error messages have stopped, allowing me to play games etc for longer; yet I am still encountering random BSOD and Crashes - all of which end up in the machine rebooting. The BSOD dissappears too fast for me to see what it says (Which is not much use but...)

Is it possible it could be a power issue? (Having gone from a single core to a quad core processor etc)

Update: When I play any game the screen also flickers and the graphics fade in places, although this is fairly inconsitant. The sound also goes very crackly and statically.

    Re: nv_disp4.dll error

Now that I have disabled automatic reboot on BSOD I can tell you what the BSOD says -

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ((I think this has something to do with drivers - yet it says nothing about which driver etc, just the above, some wording, then))

    Technical Details

    ***Stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x000000071C, 0x00000000, 0x805021AF)

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Another BSOD I got was completely different - it looked like it had cut off the top part, and was just text about driver issues - with the technical details:

    ***STOP: 0x000000C5 (0x00000004, 0x00000001,0x8054AF02

For the IRQ one you could try assigning an IRQ to the VGA in the bios, happened to a friend and it solved his problem within minutes!

    Re: nv_disp4.dll error

Are you getting those messages with the borrowed GFX card, or your own one?

I've seen very similar problems before and has the "nvlddmkm.sys" error, which seems very very similar, just with a different file name. After replacing the card with those errors, it worked fine. But my brother tried to use my old card and found out it was actually overheated and broken.

The Nv_disp4.dll error only appeared with the 7800GTX card, not the borrowed 6800. The 6800 however has led to blue screen errors, and games also have a tendency to crash (The windows XP error - {GAME NAME HERE} has encountered an error and must close; Send Error Report, Don't Send Error Report etc - this occured less often with the 7800GTX)

    Re: nv_disp4.dll error

Update: I have another BSOD ((Yay!)) Although I have managed to stop another (One was due to my wireless card)

    The BSOD says the following:
    ***Stop 0x0000008C (0xC00000005, 0xBFD7CD8C, 0xB42E1A98, 0x00000000)

    nv4_disp.dll Address BFD7CD8C base at BF9D50000 Datestamp 47567004

So it seems I am getting the same nv_disp4.dll error with another graphics ard - yet this manifests itself in less frequent *touch wood* BSODs rather than resetting the driver...

    Re: nv_disp4.dll error

Boot into the bios when the system first posts. Usually has the option to assign IRQ to VGA under one of the menus. Can't think which off the top of my head though. Just systematically go through them and you will find it.
